Thank God for Lifeguards!

So I decided to take the boys to the pool again this morning for a birthday swim. We were the only ones at the pool today. The lifeguard on duty happened to be the same guy that was the instructor for Matthew earlier this summer when he took swimming lessons.

At the beginning of the summer, Matthew wouldn't even dunk his head under the water. After lessons were over, he was able to do that and was getting a little better each time we went to the pool.

Yesterday, Phoenix mastered going down a slide into 5 and 1/2 foot deep water. Pretty impressive since the boys have been coming to the pool for a couple summers now and only one set of lessons this summer.

Well today, Matthew wanted to try the slide and I really didn't think he was ready for it. But I asked the lifeguard and he said to let him try. At first Matthew was very hesitant. It took some coaxing but we got him to go down the slide! Well he managed to do it 3 times!

But the 3rd time was a doozy. The boys have been addicted to wearing their snorkels and goggles in the water, the 3rd time he went down he started coughing because water was in the tube and just like that, Taylor, the lifeguard jumped in and pulled him out. Whew...

Thank GOD for lifeguards. This will definitely be quite a memorable birthday for Matthew.
